Announcements - December 27, 2015


  • Church prayer meetings are held every Sunday at 10:30am at the office. All are encouraged and welcome to attend. 
  • Worship duties list is posted on the church website. Please contact Deacon Peter, Deacon Justin or the church secretary if you are not available for the duties. Please do not make changes on your own.  
  • Try to use offering envelopes for your tithe and offering. If you have forgotten your offering number, please contact the church office. 
  • For those who are new to Westside and if you have not filled out a guest record form, please get one from our ushers. Also contact Pastor Gladys or one of our SG leaders if you want to know more about us or join our small groups. 
  • We have raised a total of $3,587.30 from all the charity events we hosted this year. All proceeds received have been donated to Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) in aiding the Syrian refugees, and the funds submitted to CBM prior to December 31 will be matched by the Canadian Government. Thank you for the generosity of all brothers, sisters and friends. 
  • Starting from January 2016, Christian Education will be held on the third week of the month. The first course will be held on January 17 between 2pm – 5pm. The topic is, “ISIS(ISIL) - What Christians Need to Know”. Details and sign-up sheet have already posted on the bulletin board. 
  • There will be a community luncheon on January 17th. $8 @ please register with your SG leaders. 
  • 2016 church calendar are ready for pick up at the back of the hall.

  • Christmas Charity events are as follow: 
    1. We have collected 95 bags of clothing for this year’s clothing drive. Thank you all for their donation. 
    2. Christmas Charity Dinner will be held tonight at 6pm. Be green, please bring your own dinnerware, cutlery and cup. 
    3. During the Christmas Charity dinner, there will be auction, phototaking with Santa and collecting donation on the table. All proceeds received from the above event will be donated to Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) in aiding the Syrian refugees, and the funds submitted to CBM prior to December 31 will be matched by the Canadian Government. Thank you for your support! 
  • The church will sing Christmas carols at the Marine Gateway Mall on December 20 between 2pm and 4pm. Congregation are welcome to invite friends and relatives to enjoy the singing.

Summary of November 2015 Deacon Board Meeting


  • The Christmas charity fundraiser events include: the surplus from the dinner on December 20, the offering collected on the dinner tables, auction, photo session with Santa during the dinner, clothing drive and AWANA matching. 
  • Starting from December 15, Canada Post will only deliver mails to mail box. Therefore, the church will install a new mail box near the front entrance. 
  • The church will switch to use Vancity Credit Union for banking after the AGM on January 24, 2016. 
  • The church will use $1,400 to replace the computers and monitors of two pastoral staffs. 
  • The church board proposed the following changes in the bylaws of the member’s handbook: 
    • Replace each occurrence of “Church Council” to “Deacon Board”; 
    • 7.5 The Church Council Deacon Board shall be responsible for arranging pulpit supply during pastoral vacation periods the absence of all pastoral staffs.

  • There were 122 members casted their votes during deacon election of last Sunday. Justin Chen (109 agreed, 2 disagreed, 11 abstained), Lily Liu (108 agreed, 5 disagreed, 9 abstained), Tsz-Lam Mak (116 agreed, 2 disagreed, 4 abstained) have been re-elected as 2016–2018 deacons. 
  • For those who are new to Westside and if you have not filled out a guest record form, please get one from our ushers. Also contact Pastor Gladys or one of our SG leaders if you want to know more about us or join our small groups. 
  • Join GZone X for their first ever Scavenger Hunt downtown! As a team, you will be given a series of challenges to solve in order to get your next clue to find your checkpoint. Meet at church at 2 PM and the event starts at Vancouver City Center Canada Line station at 2:30 PM. Join us for dinner afterwards at Old Spaghetti Factory at Gastown. Sign up via Facebook event. Max capacity at 30 people - priority will be given to GZone X members - so sign up quickly!"

    1. Clothing drive (coordinator: Maggie Leung) will be on December 6 – 13. Filled up standard (26” x 36”) garbage bag of clothing can be dropped off at Room A. 
    2. Christmas Charity Dinner (coordinator: Deacon Keddy Au Yeung and Samson Chan) will be on December 20. Dinner tickets are $15 per adult and $8 per child age 4-10. Tickets are now available with small group leaders or deacon Justin Chen. Tickets sale deadline is December 13, 2015. 
    3. DONATIONS WANTED! Gifts to be sold at the Christmas Charity Auction are now being collected. We are accepting: new items of value; unique and valuable vintage items; and unused and non-expired gift certificates, gift cards, or gift vouchers (e.g. Groupons). Items should be new or in excellent condition. Please contact Pastor Alan for details before December 13. Please note that the Church reserves the right to refuse any donations, and unsold gifts will be returned to donors. Thank you for your support!

  • Today is 2016-2018 Deacon election. Polling station has been set up to collect the ballots from members. The opening hours of the polling station are as follow: 9:30am – 10am; the half an hour right after CM worship service and right after EM worship service until 1:30pm. Members are encouraged to vote. 
  • Operation Christmas Child national collection week has received 4492 shoe box gifts. Thank you brothers and sisters who helped to packed the cartons and loaded them into the trailer.

Summary of November 2015 Deacon board meeting


  • Volunteers of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards program are Kenald Yu (coordinator), Carson Lai, Jodie Ng, and Carbo Ngai. Carlos Liu will become occasional helper and Daisy Liu will serve in another ministry instead. The registration fee has been amended to $30 per year per participant. 
  • All shoebox gifts will send to the Calgary processing centre on November 28. 
  • The church secretary will be on vacation between November 15 and November 22, 2015. 
  • All funds collected from this year’s Christmas charity events (including clothing drive, surplus from Christmas Charity Dinner, charity auction and other fundraiser events during Christmas dinner) will be donated to Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) in aiding the Syrian refugees, and the funds submitted to CBM prior to December 31 will be matched by the Canadian Government. 
  • 2015 annual children ministry training should have been completed by this time. Volunteers may be disqualified from serving in Children ministries if they do not complete the training by the end of this year. 
  • Helen Yung’s membership has been reactivated. Betty Cheung, Kellie Chiu, Justin Ng and Polly Yu’s memberships have been deactivated. 
  • The annual general meeting will be held on January 24, 2016.

  • Operation Christmas Child filled shoebox gifts will be collected today.
  • Thanks to brothers and sisters who participated in the fall clean-up last Sunday and today. Please continue in this spirit of love and care to our church family on a regular basis by keeping it clean. 
  • WBC301 will start at 1:30pm today due to the fall clean up arrangement. 
  • The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program is started as a bridge to reach out to the community. It is suitable for teens and youth ages 14 - 19. Please invite youths who fall in this age group to attend and get more information about the program. If you are interested to know more about this program or in helping out, please contact the coordinator, Kenald Yu or the co-leader, Carson Lai. Also please pray for God’s guidance in the development of this new ministry.

    3. you can also use your own box - suggested is the transparent plastic shoebox so that the child receiving it can re-use it (it can buy from Walmart, London Drug, JYSK etc) 
    4. new this year: 1) do not put candy of any kind in the shoebox; 2) there are 2 sets of 'boy/girl' labels in the English brochure, you may only need one brochure for multiple boxes 
    5. please bring back the gift-filled shoebox on November 15 
  • WBC301 will resume classes today at 1:00pm.This course is for baptized members who want to find out their spiritual gifts and a place of ministry at Westside. For those who are new to Westside and if you have not filled out a guest record form, please get one from our ushers.   • In remembrance of our Lord Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins, Holy Communion will be held today. If you have openly declared your faith and commitment to Jesus Christ through baptism, you are invited to prepare your heart and partake in the Holy Communion with us.

  • Daylight Saving Time will end at 2:00am on November 1(Sunday). Please turn your clock one hour backward before you go to bed on October 31 (Saturday).

Summary of August Deacon Board Meeting


  • The maximum of AWANA matching donation in 2015-2016 will be $2,500 and each AWANA share donation will be matched by $5. 
  • This year’s annual children ministry training will be conducted online. According to the insurance policy, all volunteers involved in the children ministry must complete the online security training and quiz annually. 
  • Participants should expect to pay for the cost of an event (including outreach event) if they will receive food service or any tangible item for taking home at the event. 
  • All fundraising events conducted in the name of the church and within the church community must be reviewed and pre-approved by the deacon board. 
  • The coordinator for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program is Kenald Yu, and the helper is Carson Lai. The registration fee per participant per year is $100. An open house will be held on September 27 at 2:30pm. 
  • Pastor Anders will attend a seminar co-sponsored by CBWC from August 24-27 regarding soul care for maturing adults.

Summary of July Deacon Board Meeting


  • Effective July 1, 2015 the church’s insurance company has been changed to Wynward Insurance Group. 
  • The current GZone coaches are Jason Kwok, Joanna Lai, Kelly Lo, and Kenald Yu. Stephan Kwok will join the team in August 2015. 
  • As per the insurance company’s policy, all volunteers involved in the ministries with minors (children under the age of 19) must have the criminal record checks every 2 years or not exceeding 36 months between checks. 
  • The yellow lines on the upper parking lot have been repainted.
